The wrestling community has lost one of its legends.
Sidney “Sid Vicious” Raymond Eudy, a professional wrestler known for his iconic stare and intensity, has died after a years-long cancer battle, his son Gunnar Eudy confirmed on social media. He was 63.
“He was a man of strength, kindness, and love, and his presence will be greatly missed,” Gunnar wrote of his father in an Aug. 26 Facebook post. “We appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we grieve this loss. Details for a memorial service will be shared soon. Thank you for your support.”
Sid exploded into the pro-wrestling scene in 1989 after signing with World Champion Wrestling (WCW). He debuted with the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) two years later under the name “Sid Justice” and, standing at 6 feet 9 inches, he was known, according to a statement from the WWE, as one of the most “imposing and terrifying competitors of his generation.”
During his time in the wrestling industry, Sid fought against other greats including Mark “The Undertaker” Calaway and The Four Horsemen group, led by Ric Flair.
“Known as ‘The Master and Ruler of the World,’ Sid’s reputation as one of the toughest and most thrilling Superstars cemented his legacy in WWE, and his influence can still be seen in wrestling rings around the world,” the wrestling network added in an Aug. 26 statement. “WWE extends its condolences to Eudy’s family, friends and fans.”
The West Memphis, Arkansas native is survived by his wife Sabrina Estes Eudy, son Gunnar, and another son Frank Eudy, as well as his grandchildren.
WWE superstar Booker T. Huffman—known by moniker Booker T, who wrestled alongside his brother Stevie Ray—also shared a note of condolences to the late legend, emphasizing his impact.
“Without Sid Vicious, I don’t think my brother and I would have made it to WCW,” Booker T wrote to X, formerly Twitter Aug. 26. “His impact on this business was undeniable, and he paved the way for so many of us."
